Insurer case study

Direct Group

Direct Group

In 2014 Direct Group chose Open GI to replace its existing insurance software Administration & Trading platform.

The software solution consists of five, full cycle B2C websites for brands owned by Direct Group’s affinity partner and the UK’s leading multi-brand digital retailer Shop Direct, including Very.co.uk (now includes isme.com and Woolworth.co.uk) and Littlewoods.com (now includes KandCo.com). The responsive websites offer various self-management options, allowing customers to view, cancel, and amend policies via a simple login. Thanks to integrations provided by Open GI, customers can choose from a variety of payment methods including their accounts with Very.co.uk or Littlewoods.com.

“Our new system will enable us to implement and grow a customer-focused distribution strategy, a key plank in our aim to become the UK’s leading niche and specialist insurance services provider. The software will be ‘insurance-bespoke,’ meaning we can widen our distribution channels and broaden our product range. We also expect to be able to offer white-labelled distribution for affinities. Our parent, Ryan Speciality Group (RSG), has seen the potential for Direct Group and is committing significant investment in IT to enable us to grow and prosper.”

Derek Coles, Chief Executive at Direct Group

“The affinity sector is a significant opportunity for Direct Group, where technology enables us to reach customer segments that aren’t normally served by traditional insurers, or where customers prefer to buy their insurance from trusted brands like Shop Direct with whom they already have a strong relationship.”

Colin Jones, Commercial Director, Direct Group
